The Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games

Canada is hosting the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) will do its part to ensure the success of the Games by streamlining the processing of applications from Games’ participants. These include athletes, team officials, International and National Olympic/Paralympic Committee members, International Sports Federation members, and some media and observers.

Those travelling to Canada for the Games must meet the requirements to come to Canada. Travellers from certain countries require a visa. See below to find out more.

There are three ways to come to Canada for the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games:

  • as an Olympic/Paralympic “Family Member”
    • this includes: athletes, team officials, International Olympic/Paralympic Committee members, International Sports Federation members, National Olympic/Paralympic Committee members, selected media representatives of broadcasters and press, observers from other organizing committees and other guests – all of whom must be designated by the International Olympic/Paralympic Committees

If you will travel to Vancouver via the U.S.

If you will be transiting the United States en route to Canada, or plan to visit during your stay, you will need a valid U.S. visa unless you qualify for visa-free travel under the U.S. Visa Waiver Program. If you need a U.S. visa, you should apply in your home country well before your trip. This will help ensure your travel is not interrupted.

Note: An Olympic/Paralympic Identification and Accreditation Card is not a valid travel document for transit through or entry to the United States.
