Committees

The Citizenship Commission has two committees and one task force to handle its operational and promotional requirements. These are the Legislation and Operations Standing Committee, the Standing Committee on Promotion and Education, and the Task Force on Enhanced Ceremonies.

Legislation and Operations Standing Committee

The purpose of this Committee is to deal with legislative and operational challenges of the Citizenship Commission and to ensure that best practices contribute to the overall integrity and efficiency of the citizenship process.

The Committee’s main business activities are:

  • increasing the integrity, consistency, coherence and efficiency of citizenship services for clients across the country by identifying and using best practices;
  • increasing an understanding of the role and responsibilities of all people working in the citizenship program; and
  • finding workable solutions to issues raised about the integrity of the program, operational needs and service delivery to clients.

Standing Committee on Education and Promotion

The purpose of this Committee is to perform the Citizenship Commission’s role in the areas of communications, marketing and outreach initiatives that promote the importance of citizenship and its inherent responsibilities.

The Committee’s activities include:

  • supporting the development of promotional opportunities in line with the national promotional objectives;
  • acting as a facilitator in the organization of promotional activities in various regions across Canada;
  • exploring opportunities to collaborate with portfolio partners in events where judges can promote citizenship; and
  • coordinating the development of various tools for outreach activities.

Task Force on Enhanced Ceremonies

The Task Force was developed to provide a response from judges on enhanced citizenship ceremonies. The goal of enhanced ceremonies is to make ceremonies more meaningful by encouraging a meeting of new and established Canadians, and to increase community involvement in the citizenship process.
