Citizenship process

Can I submit an application for a citizenship grant even though I have a permanent residence (immigration) application active?

Yes, you may. If CIC receives permanent residence and citizenship applications for the same person, we will make a determination on the citizenship application before making a determination on the application for permanent residence. If citizenship is granted, the application for permanent residence will be automatically withdrawn, and you will not receive any refund. You will also have the option of withdrawing your application for permanent residence and you may be eligible for a refund. Please refer to question 13.
