What does my family sponsorship application status mean?
Application tracker
You can check the status of your application in the application status tracker(opens in a new tab) .
To access your account, you need one of these web browsers:
In the account, you’ll see
- the overall application status
- your application history
- your contact information
Updates to your application status will only show up after you get an acknowledgement of receipt (AOR) letter or email.
- You’ll get an AOR after we get your application and check that it’s complete.
- Until then, you may be able to see
- the date we got the application
- your contact information
Overall status
At the top of the page, you’ll see one of these statuses:
- “Received” means we got your application and we’re checking if it’s complete.
- “In progress” means we’re still reviewing your application.
- “Closed” means
- we’ve approved your application
- we refused your application, or
- you withdrew (cancelled) or abandoned your application
We’ll contact you before we close your application.

This shows all updates to your application.

When you check your application status for your sponsorship application, you’ll see one of these status updates:
Received
“Received” means your application is ready to be processed and you
- answered all the questions on the form
- sent all the required documents
- paid the fees
It may be several weeks between when we get your application and it’s ready to be processed.
In process
“In process” means we started processing your application.
If we need more information from you before we make a decision, we’ll contact you.
Decision made
“Decision made” means we either approved or refused your application.
If we approved your application, we’ll contact you and tell you what to do next.
If we refused your application, we’ll send you a letter explaining why.
